New Birth

I grew up in an evangelical church. And I was told that in order to be forgiven of my sins and be saved from the wrath of God all I had to do was "receive Jesus into my heart." In other words all I had to do was trust that Jesus died on the cross and rose from the dead to pay for my sins, and in doing that I would be saved; I would be a Christian. So that's what I did. At that point, so I was told, I was born again.
